xx YMCA and Healthy Families
« Thread started on: Oct 12th, 2011, 05:50am »

The YMCA understands that health begins at home and they support families in their efforts to build the five pillars that support a healthy family home: Eat healthy, play every day, get together, go outside and sleep well. Each family can become a healthy family. This can be done by focusing the family’s efforts to live healthier around the YMCA’s pillars of a healthy family home. By taking small steps using the information and tools provided by the YMCA, a family can soon feel strong and live healthier.

The YMCA believes in taking small steps leading to big changes. Eating healthy is one of the small steps. Even the busiest families can discover ways to eat healthier and feel better with a balanced approach. The YMCA helps the families to explore these healthy habits, tips and tools designed to help the family improve their approach to the foods they eat and drink.

Another pillar of a healthy family home is to play every day. Playing is one of the best ways to prevent child obesity. One can put more play into one’s family’s day and soon find oneself getting the activity that can have the family feel energized and strong.

Getting together is very important as strong relationships are one of the cornerstones of health and well being. One of the most important relationships is that between adults and children. Children learn, grow and thrive with the help of the time and attention that the adults invest.

Going outside helps kids and adults to interact with nature and benefit from unstructured play and exploration. When people go out and play together good things happen.

Sleeping is an essential part of healthy living. When minds and bodies are resting many good things happen.
